Pub Has New Name That Honours Kidderminster’s Finest
At the end of October, the doors of The Red Man pub on Blackwell Street closed, ahead of an extensive refurbishment by Davenports Brewery who are returning the brand to Kidderminster for the first time in several decades. To bring it in line with other venues in their award-winning portfolio the pub will benefit from Davenports’ interior styling, to include their colour palette, bespoke branded wallpaper and striking bar treatment, as well as that wonderful character and personality that Davenports injects into each of its refurbished pubs. As always, there will be a nod to the Brewery’s important heritage adorning the walls, and always a respectful nod to the venue’s history and location. The Red Man also required a new name, a name befitting the history of Kidderminster, and after much consideration the company decided on ‘The Post House’.
Inspiration for the name came from the high-profile former resident of Blackwell Street where the pub is located, Sir Rowland Hill. A celebrity of the Victorian era, Sir Rowland Hill is best known for instigating the postal reform, making the postal service something that everyone could afford. Its thanks to his vision and work that the first stamp was created, the Penny Black.
The appreciation of the areas rich history doesn’t stop there, in addition to pictures reflecting Sir Rowland Hills impact on the postal service, visitors to the pub when it reopens to the public on the 15th December, will also note that Kidderminster’s famous carpet industry has been acknowledged with historical references framed and hanging pride of place on the walls.
Commenting on the new name and refurbishment, Baron W Davenport said; “Whenever we acquire a new pub or refurbish a venue, we ensure our brand identity is very evident, from our interior treatment to our own rich heritage. We also honour the location of the pub, and in this case, it means not just its high-profile former resident Sir Rowland Hill, but also the rich carpet industry that has been so important to Kidderminster and its residents over the centuries. The Post House seemed the perfect name, our pubs are welcoming, friendly places – a place that should feel as familiar and comfortable as your own home, an environment that we hope our customers will enjoy.”
Chico Uppal, Commercial Director of Davenports added; “As with all our pubs, customers will be able to relax and enjoy a superb drink offering alongside freshly prepared food using locally sourced ingredients where possible. We’ve picked up two high-profile ‘Best Pub’ awards this year, significant awards that acknowledge the high standard of our food, as well as separate awards for our ales, and we’re hoping it doesn’t stop there. We have a plan of continued investment with several new pubs coming onboard early 2023 – and several new ales too!”
The Post House will boast a strong foodie offering with great pub classics as well as Davenports award-winning dishes of wickedly good burgers, beer battered fish & chips and a super selection of deep filled sandwiches and lite bites for those pausing for lunch at the pub.
The Post House will be the first Davenports branded pub in Kidderminster in over three decades, and will open its doors to the public on the 15th December.
The Post House is located at 92 Blackwell St, Kidderminster DY10 2DZ. They are currently recruiting for various roles including general manager, bar staff and cleaners. If you would like to apply then please send an email to jobs@davenports.co.uk.
